A particular wish is to help children with cleft lip and palate. The cleft lip and palate is one of the most common congenital deformaties in humans. Untreated cleft formation has far-reaching health consequences. Children can not eat and drink properly, they are functionally impaired and severely impaired by hearing deficits in speech development as a result of clefting. In addtion to this, psychological problems arise as a result of social exclusion. While the treatment of patients in Germany is usually ensured at a high level by specialised cleft lip and palate centres, children in many developing countries are excluded from any medical care. In addition, deficiency and malnutrition during pregnancy favour the accumulation of deformaties.
We support Deutsche Cleft Kinderhilfe e. V. in Freiburg. The Deutsche Cleft Kinderhilfe is active in 12 countries. It provides information on prevention and therapy, and finances the surgeries and the necessary accompanying therapies such as speech therapy.
